CRITICAL CARE & EMERGENCY MEDICINE

The changing landscape of health care has resulted in an increase in the delivery of critical care in the emergency department. Although the emergency department duration is brief compared with the total length of hospitalization, physiologic determinants of outcome may be established before ICU admission. The care provided during the emergency department stay for critically ill patients has been shown to significantly impact the progression of organ failure and mortality. In general, the need to maximize patient throughput in frequently overcrowded emergency departments hinders the provision of optimal care to critically ill patient. We adopt Methodologies to examine the quality of patient care and objectively measure the impact of clinical interventions.

Emergency medicine is the medical speciality concerned with the diagnosis and management of urgent and emergency aspects of illness and injury. Emergency physicians focus on the immediate decision making and action necessary to prevent death or any further disability. Our primary responsibility is resuscitation and stabilization followed by a thorough investigation to diagnose and treat illnesses.

In line with the opinion in recent years that immediate life support and resuscitation of critically ill and injured patients,  we have considered this a major area of interest. Indeed, critical care resuscitation of the extremely critically ill patient is today one of the most important skill sets of anesthesiologists, intensivists, and emergency physicians in our hospital.

The hospital believes in the motivation of our doctors in this special area to expand the role of physicians into state-of-the-art Critical Emergency Medicine and improve the care of patients in the first minutes to hours of their critical illness.  We also believe that this will stimulate high-quality research that will further improve the in-hospital management and resuscitation of critically ill patients under our care.
